  • To drink or Not to Drink

Im reading this report now..touting the benefits of having the odd drink...wine ...beer..how long ago ..i think it was recently i read....Drinking was Bad....do you think these scientists just do willy nilly tests and thro out reports too fast....I belive now coffee is good for you...I fully expect to read one day..smoking is good for your health lol

    heres part of the report.

SUNDAY, Oct. 18 (HealthDay News) -- Just about every month -- if not every week -- a new study emerges touting the health benefits to be gained from a daily glass of wine or a pint of dark beer.

The benefits related to cardiovascular health have become well-known. A study released in mid-July, for instance, found that moderate alcohol consumption reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease in women by increasing the amount of "good" cholesterol in the bloodstream and reducing blood sugar levels.

But other studies have linked a daily drink, most often wine, to reduced risk of dementia, bone loss and physical disabilities related to old age. Wine also has been found to increase life expectancy and provide potential protection against some forms of cancer, including esophageal cancer and lymphoma.

There was also another study done recently that claimed that wine drinking could cause cancer, you wouldnt know who to believe ,but i prefer your theory MKM

It depends on who pays for the research doesn't it? If it's the Drinks industry they will come up with a "beneficial" result if the other side well then it'll kill ya.....me I believe everything in moderation (just like here lol) unless you have a medical condition which is a different thing.....Me...I don't like the taste of most alcohol so not an issue.

I'm a bit like you khaleduz. I think a social drink is fine for some people... others should never touch the stuff.

I once drank and like you say it changed something inside of me. Without going into details I didn't like me after I'd had a drink. If I'd continued I'd either be dead or in prison now.

So the last pint of Guinness I had.... the very last drink for me..... I got one penny change out of half a crown.

Now... figure out when that was.

Pammy and newtry you'll have to fight it out between you.

It was August 1969, and that last drink was taken in the Fingal House.

Haven't even had a shandy since.

But I can be still good company in a pub... often being even worse than those doing the drinking.

Absolutely khaleduz. A few ice cubes in that and the right companions and anyone can have a whale of a time.
