A drubbing for the ConDems and a no vote for elected mayors in most cities - a no vote in Coventry. Liverpool has a directly elected mayor but unlike most cities in question they were not given the option to vote no. So much for democracy

if we assume, that the local election results......is a protest against the governments austerity measures.............then it is a shame on people.......we have to pay 30 billion interest on the debt we owe..........that money could be better spent......the borrowed money has been spent......if we do not pay it back now.......our children will have to pay it back later......

politics of the unbelieveably selfish...................i am shocked at the result.....
      Here Rex!!!...Here Rex!!!.....Wuff!!!....... Wuff!!!

From what I can gather, a mayor elected by voters has massive powers and can bypass and indeed enact powers and laws they see fit on a whim as Johnson did in London -you pay to drive through London. He also increased bus fares massively. He is an egotist and will lead the Tories replacing Cameron

Now he is OK he lives there but commuters to workplaces are suffering not everyone who works in London lives there they have to commute

Too much power and councils have to take this on board - Boris has too much power as will any elected mayor - think Tammeny Hall

The ConDems want this in every city. Coventry and most cities said no - we had a choice or yes or no but Liverpool had no choice - they had to vote for a mayor

A high salary and a staff to support an elected mayor whilst at present mayors - not necessarily of the sittting council (they can be from another party) represent cities at little cost and promote they city they live in
