    just seen this on a news web site , might interest jg , bigs or anyone that takes pics.The USS Fort McHenry is in Dublin for the Navy v Notre Dame game this weekend.
    610 feet long
    16000 tonnes
    4x 33000 horsepower engines
    Top speed of about 37 MPH

                    Dont wish to be pedantic Fitzy but for seafaring vessels speed is calculated in knots. 37mph = 30 knots. Stickler for this sort of thing.

                      son waiting to see if he gets tickets to the game, there was a lottery for tickets to board the ship, I did not hear about it until it was closed

                          i had a visit on this ship a few years ago when it visited fremantle as part of a battle group en route to the gulf. always a big crowd puller the u.s.navy.
                          in god i trust...everyone else cash only.

                            the white cone shaped object high on the superstructure [not the mast] is one of a few phalanex anti missile weapons [ its a glorafied gatling gun] which can fire 3000 or 4500 rounds of depleted uraniam tipped projectiles [depending on the model] that are tracked as they travel. this is the only dependable weapon to stop most missiles such as exocet simply by the amount of projectiles they can put out. most major ships will have at least four of these weapons one on each quarter.
