  • If the UK leaves the EU?

All the talk lately is that UK wants to leave the EU for many reasons.
    • If that happens how will it impact on Ireland and the World?
    • Will we see UKIP gain power and the Rise of the British Empire Mark 2?
    • Or will the UK become an off shore Vegas?
    • How will Border controls and Customs along the NI border impact on Irish-NI relations?
    • Will tariffs on dairy damage the Irish Food Industry trade with the UK?
    • Will leaving the EU impact on UK industry? 50% of UK exports go to the EU Zone while UK imports 15% from the EU.
    • Will the "Special Relationship" remain with the US now that the US has moved it's Defense focus to the Pacific Rim Regions and voiced an opinion that the EU needs to increase defense spending as a block?

Thanks for your reply, but my post if you read it correctly is about the repercussions of the UK leaving not what you joined or didn't.

To the best of my knowledge the people of the UK didn't get a vote to join the Common Market. The decision was made for them by the government of the day and they probably won't get a vote on whether they want to leave or not.

there was a referendum.......they said yes......

there will be another........what the result will be, depends on the questions....

the people in the uk have no problem with a common market........they have a problem with being told to give money to everybody else, and being told that their own government does not run their own country.....

the recievers of that money are happy with that.....but the givers are not....

For Britain... a loss in political, diplomatic and economic influence in the world. For Ireland - a mixed bag... a million Britons work for US companies - some of those jobs would migrate here... on the other hand the UK is our largest trading partner - so there would be a downside.

Will we see UKIP gain power and the Rise of the British Empire Mark 2?
The UKIP are essentially a single issue party - and contain a high proportion of nutters... outside of EU membership they've little else to offer by way of debate - they're populist zenophobics...

Or will the UK become an off shore Vegas?
Not sure what you mean by that Napper - but Britain could not survive on gambling joints...
How will Border controls and Customs along the NI border impact on Irish-NI relations?
That would depend on whether Britain maintained a free trade agreement with the EU in the event of them leaving...

Will tariffs on dairy damage the Irish Food Industry trade with the UK?
See above - but why would the UK introduce tariffs ? They don't have a massive UK agriculture industry to protect... and they need food.

Will leaving the EU impact on UK industry? 50% of UK exports go to the EU Zone while UK imports 15% from the EU.
British industrialists most definitely believe so... they were freaked by Osborne's recent statement.

Will the "Special Relationship" remain with the US now that the US has moved it's Defense focus to the Pacific Rim Regions and voiced an opinion that the EU needs to increase defense spending as a block?
The 'special relationship' from the White House's perspective is based on Britain being at the heart of European affairs - not on the periphery...
              Everything is self-evident.

Labour government held a referendum in 1975 - after Britain had joined... they got a 67% yes...

the 62 million people in the uk......are a market....and a very importand one for many european countries.......

at this very moment it is probably the only country still providing jobs for other eu members.....

it has done this while still giving handouts to the eu......

the biggest problem with the eu, is countries with their hands out......

Job Dependent on EU membership in The Uk

There are just under 3.5 million jobs directly dependent on the UKs membership of the EU. When alternative employment can be guaranteed for these millions, then, and only then should the discussion of the UKs withdrawal take place. To think otherwise is pure folly. Some of the most influential business leaders have stated this fact recently. including the CBI, Before one makes ill founded comments and calls for the Uk to exit the EU, they should make themselves familiar with the facts surrounding this issue. It would be nothing short of a catastrophe for the hard working men and woman who's livelihoods are intrinsically linked to the Uks membership of the EU. It is only the right wing zealots and the "Im all right Jack" brigade, who think the EU will remove the head of the queen from their postage stamps who are calling for an exit. lol

Today's Sunday Times is reporting that the UK will have to negotiate all World Trade agreements with the various trading blocks themselves rather than piggy back on the existing EU Agreements if they leave. The recent agreement with South Korea took 18 months.
