Just watched John Pilger, once again show the out and out racism that exists in Australia against the owners of that great land - the aboriginal people in the year 2013

They are living in abject poverty, being accused of abusing children (disproved) whilst an elite hotel charges astronomical prices to stay in a hotel that once held indeginous people when it was a prison

Pilger is an Australian who reported on the abuse of the true Australians a long time ago

The programme is called Utopia and was on ITV

I don't think I'd be paying too much credence to whatever Mr Pilger says. Why were they living in abject poverty when they have access to better social services than other Australians? If you go out into any community with a socio-political view, I'm sure you can find someone to fit the bill. The program has not been shown here yet, but I'd think the hotel you are referring to is perhaps on Rottnest Island about 20km off the coast of Perth. The hotel is not an ex-prison, but a newly built project. The whole island was a prison island in the 19th and early 20th century as were many other parts of Australia for white and indigenous prisoners.

Why do you 'protest' so deeply - Australia has the worse record for the treatment of the native population in the whole world. Full stop

Do not mention alcohol etc - we have it everywhere

Boxie watch the programme - it is true - just broaden your horizens

Read Pilger's book 'Heroes' back in the eighties... he became a bit of a hero himself for me after reading it... as he did for many who thought of themselves as neither Left nor Right - but of a 'liberal' outlook...

Lost track of him after that - though he'd pop up every now and then on TV and newspapers - especially if some superpower was considering any military adventures...

Cogs you think you are above us all - the program pointed out the fact that outside influences are causing mayhem for valuable minerals and will use any force to delete - yes delete - the rightful owners of these lands

I am not a liberal every person is and should be equal - I am no better or no worse than anyone in the world. If you are better than me, put your hand up and prove it and I dont mean because you have a degree in some subject that wont help the world

Are you special Cogs and boxie? I am not - I just want people to be treated equally and I hope you do as well, after all Australia was originally the place where criminals (allegedly criminals) were sent. And the land was taken from the natives as in the USA and Ireland

I will never visit a country where the people are up their own holes, in cluding Irish, Scottish, English etc

It is a total disgrace. If your a 'black fella' you dont matter

To be honest - I know its a beautiful place, where Irish prisoners and others were sent, robbed by the English, and the indigenous people were robbed of their children and live in squalour

You are talking about issues in our historical past. There has not been a convict sent to Australia for over 145 years. To burst another historical bubble most convicts ever sent to Australia were petty criminals not political prisoners. Only about 20% of the current population are the descendants of convicts, the vast majority are of free immigrants.

In 1967 the Australian government held a referendum to recognise the indigenous population as citizens for the first time. Prior to that they were considered wildlife. The result of the referendum was almost 92% of the population in favour and carried in all 6 states. If Australians were racists as you make out, why the overwhelming support? This was the 1960s remember when racial equality was an issue in many countries. Would such a referendum have gotten similar support in the US, Canada, South America, South Africa, the UK?

                          utopia...........

why john pilger showed the holiday let for rich holidaymakers is beyond me......

Australia is not a communist country, and people are free to spend their money as they wish.......

the problem there is with the government........it has nothing to do with the ''past'' it is what is or is not being done now that matters......

The government is responsible for the long term health of it's citizens......and that starts with the children......

The place looked a mess, and there was inadequate water supplies and sanitary facilities....
If the people there are unable or unwilling to help themselves.....the local authorities must step-in and do what is required to bring health-care and facilities up to a reasonable standard.....

i was not impressed with the answers that those being interviewed were giving.....though i don't really know enough about the situation......

John Pilger has made his point, but i fear that he could have been too selective in what the completed programme showed....

Perhaps the ''aussie'' posters on here could give us a bit more info......
                          Here Rex!!!...Here Rex!!!.....Wuff!!!....... Wuff!!!
