these two blocks of corpo flats were built in Dublin in the mid 50s....
one called Mc Donagh house......the other called Whitefriar Gardens.......
lovely new flats as I remember at the time........
they are still standing as far as I know.......
attached to each of the blocks they built playgrounds...two areas surrounded by metal railings and metal gates.....
there were toilet facilities and a facility room in each of the playgrounds.....
there was a childrens sandpit, swings and slides in each of the playgrounds.....
social housing at it's very best....
withing two years, the playgrounds were wrecked, the toilets and facility rooms were stripped of their plumbing fittings....the pipes were ripped out for scrap.....even the electric wires were pulled out and the light fittings smashed....
windows were broken and doors were pulled off their hinges.......the sand from the sandpits was thrown onto the nearby roads.....and the swings and slides were damaged beyond use....
I can remember being shocked at the time......such is life....
