is the age old treatment of guests changing.......

guests were always offered....

the most comfortable seating in the house....

the warmest position by the fire......

the best china to eat and drink from......

the freshest bedding when staying overnight.....

they were waited and tended on.......

and children were expected to be at their best behaviour in front of guests....

guests were offered the best cut of meat......

the first choice of cake......

and if the weather changed unexpectedly, they were offered the host's clothing to travel home in.......

is it the same nowadays.....

For me yes that still is the way, except that now all the seating is the same so they can choose where they would like to sit, the heat is gas so usually the entire room is warm, food wise, all the food is the same.
