the neverending cycle of boom and bust.......

the ''worst'' is over.....we are on the way (though slowly) to our next boom....

this of course will lead to the next ..bust.....

but, who will get the blame this time.....

the financial experts...will once again ''get it wrong''...the governments will make their usual short term (to get themselves re-elected) decisions....and the people will ''want'' more and more.....claiming it is their ''right'' to have a better and longer life......

the old will say how better it was in the ''old days'' and expect twice as much to live ''these'' days.......

and they young will as usual.....think that nobody knows ''better'' than they do.....

the few sensible people will keep the permanent '' bewildered '' look on their faces.......and shaking ones head in despair, will replace the shaking of hands when people meet.....

I'm no economist but surely it must be obvious that the concept of "constant growth" as a goal is suicidal. The only thing in nature that enjoys constant growth is cancer and that kills its host. Why does nobody aim for "balance"?

Hagar.....there are many reasons why......in the recent past, the use of interest rates to create balance was denied to the Irish economy...

but, had it been there would it have been used.....would the people have allowed the government to use it ?

during a boom, governments play the ''popularity'' game......this is the most stupid game ever created......

it gives people money when you have it, at the same time guaranteeing that they get it...even when you don't have it...so when the economy begins to cool off....they are in the shoite......

the private side....which cannot afford to guarantee such luxuries, is expected to bankroll those ''guatanteed'' luxuries.....

during the next boom.....the bankers will still be lending money that wont be paid back.....

the governments will be amazed, that despite them it has happened....

workers in the private sector will have to work longer before they get their pensions.....

workers in the public sector will get earlier retirement deals......

and the countless millions of pet cats and dogs will be wondering.....why is it when people are ''starving''......we always get fed.....

when the next boom is well under way.......most people will forget that there ever was a recession.......''this is the future''....even the ''financial experts'' will take on even younger ''experts'' who will march headlong into an even bigger mess than their predecessors.......

most of the ''training'' done during the recession will be for jobs that need even better trained people.......

                          now......how to avoid recession.......

during a boom, everybody could prepare for the coming recession....

how is that done......by spending less?

but, if you spend less......then there will be no boom....

so, it has to be left to the government and the financial experts....

they will as usual have short term aims......the result of that is....

                          boom and bust......

                          yes, the neverending cycle.........

but, who shall we blame next time......
