  • Question.....

the question is....you see a specialist perhaps for diabetes, or heart issues, and he writes you a prescription for medication..

who writes repeats on this prescription for you?? the specialist or your family dr??

im between a rock and a hard place for prescriptions right now with neither the specialist or the family dr wanting responsibility......just reported both to the college of physicians who say the family dr is responsible here in canada..

The usual procedure here is if the consultant has not put a "repeat" proviso on the original script the GP will write the next one as he will have received a letter from the consultant re the problem and treatment. I assume the same there. If on the other hand the original had repeat on it I just leave at my pharmacy until I need it filled.

in theory it should be like that too womble......but its not...im sorta of the opinion the chemist himself is the feck up....so im trying to find out who exactly does what...they all refused to renew a drug recently i need for cardiac arrest ...my opinion is..ive no problem dying from natural causes, but i fecking refuse to go cos some fecker in either the drs office or chemists made a mistake...

the drug was originally prescribed by the cardiologist, the repeats should come from the family dr until advised to stop by the cardiologist, the chemists job is just to fill the prescription ....my chemist thinks hes god and its his decision to change prescriptions...

I get mine for the Type2 and the COPD from my family doc. In fact when I go to see my Consultant he sends a note to my gamily GP for which meds to make out the scrip for.

She gives me 2 month prescriptions, which is not such a great idea. I didn't say anything but up to a week ago I was quite ill for about 6 weeks. I was sleeping a lot which is very out of character for me, plus I felt generally ill. It got to the point (I never go to the doc if I can avoid it) that I went to see her, explained it all and after that she stopped one of my meds and changed it for another. And by god she was right -- within a day I was feeling better and now a week later I'm feeling on top of the world.

Oh yeh.. she sneaked inthe flu jab as well.

Point of the story I think is, if you're on repeat scripts it's a good idea to have your doc review your meds from time to time.

Glucophage (500mg twice a day) and she changed that to Diaglyc 30mg. (Two every morning), So far I feel great since she changed the meds.

Neither did I for about 18 months. Then I started to feel a general lack of livliness... leading on to me sleeping at all hours of the day.

It was (is) incredible the difference I feel since day one after the Glucophage was changed for Diaglyc. And the doc even told me I'd start to feel better within 24 hours. Oh yeh.. and my readings are down from double figures (around 10.2) to 7.1 today... coming down gradually.

Thanks Mai... I'm feeling better than ever since the meds were reviewed.

It's reckoned that around 40% of Irish people have Type 2 Diabetes and that 30,000 individuals could have undiagnosed Diabetes.

I think this calls for a new thread.

I was thinking of the heart failure too Helen, but they told me that time that I was very ill that they'd reversed it.

With doctors you just don't know do you? You have to stay on your toes and ask all the hard questions.

You've reminded me of something else she said, that regular meals are important and to take the meds on a full stomach... yet if you look at the directions for Glucophage it says they should be taken one hour before meals! So who's right... the doc or the manufacturer? I suppose we just have to trust the doc to a degree. My pharmacist is usually very good with the advice, and his partner has Type 2 as well.
