The Heritage Day 2011 was attended by 250 people. Two schools, one community and 250 years of history were condensed into two hours; film, speeches and pageantry. St. Joseph's and St. Mary's School (Fairview) delivered an awe inspiring living history pageant depicting the ICA, Irish Volunteers and Cumann naBan; on parade walking through the streets of Marino and heading towards Fr. Matthew Park (St. Mary's National School) Fairview, wearing authentic uniforms.
For two hours that day, the audience were all transported back to 1916. As well as celebrating history they were also making history. This was the first time in 96 years that Marino, Fairview and Fr. Matthew Park has witnessed an ICA, Irish Volunteers or Cumann naBan parade.
The Heritgae Day was filmed by a media crew for possible broadcasting in 2016. Top marks to St. Joseph's and St. Mary's School (Fairview) for their inspiring performance and imagination.
