  • Irish Idioms in English...

Sorry for created that thread, but I couldn´t find another one to post this content.

I learned some idioms from a book.

    Funny is for me:

    Don´t piss on me chips.
    Shag off.
    Smart arse.
    Goin` to the Jacks`!
    Eejit!
    Acting the maggot.
    Pain in me hole.
    Get a rid of it!

    balbhàn (Irish word) for fool???
    Best wishes
    Zurn

      Yesterday I read another one.

Keep your bones green. (Keep the health...) A very nice idiom.

It´s hard to keep them all in mind.
I have to read the book a few times.
      Best wishes

Old Dublin one. If your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.
'Never look down on a person unless you're helping them up'.
        .

Zurn, Amadain is the Irish for fool, unless it has changed. Gobshite goes well too.
today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

For "balbhàn" I have read the pronounciation "Bollawaun" somewhere.
                Amadain...should be prounonced HOOOOOW???? Amedan?

Gobshite is a short word for "excreta of a goblin"? Right?

In addition too I read yesterday "away with the faeries".... means someone is insane or weird or whatever. That made me laughing, because I have a CD from a band which plays with pagan texts... and so I thought "away with the faeries" means.....kidnapped by the faeries.
