My favourite genre; I think it's because I love trying to solve puzzles, like Tony's cryptics. Not that keen on the Scandinavian ones - read "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and wasn't overly impressed, same with "The Snowman" by ex-footballer Jo Nesbo. Love Ruth Rendell's Inspector Wexford series, and am now into Elly Griffiths' RuthGalloway series, mainly because Ruth is such a sympathetic character: driving to an Easter Sunday church service, Ruth hopes there will be enough cream eggs for the adults; need I say more?
What are your favourites, and why?

I like Jo Nesbit....but having read most of the stuff im sorta fed up and i could almost write the ends myself....i do like the swedish/danish authors though......Henning Mankell who wrote the kurt wallander stuff.....i read all the girl with the dragon tattoo stuff except the last one written after he was dead..i think he might have written the outline but certainly not the whole story..and i hated it half way thro...

Ive just finished watching the HBO series "the night of" listen you see it listed..watch it..its fecking fantastic...id say even better than the wire which was probably top of my top 10 series..

Im a crime fiction fan too lol..

I'm a crime fiction fan too and I love Ruth Rendall's Inspector Wexford series. I have not read Wallander. It is on TV but have not had time to watch it st all.

I also like Miss Marple, I know it's very old fashioned and sort of innocent in a way, but I like it anyway. It moves at a nice pace

Yes it does MK. In fact I am in the middle of one of those phases right now. I don't know why, but from being an absolute book worm, suddenly reading seems to be an effort. It happens to most people I know.

It does that MK, the cleaning we will always have with us, and unlike a story it is never ending. You do it, knowing, that in a day or two it will all have to be done again. Sometimes I wonder why I even bothered to get door mats. The number of people who come in on a wet day and ignore the doormat, is incredible, straight onto my tiles kitchen floor. When I ask them do they think the mat is an ornament, they just laugh like it is funny. The same people do it over and over.

That is my moan for today. Please feel free to moan back

hahaha your invite to moan back just created a monster lol....here the funniest thing i noticed when i came first was.....you did not wear shoes into a house......so you left your shoes in the hallway and it did keep the mess off the carpets and floors...but i used cringe at bare feet traipsing over my floors..so i always used carry a pair of light slippers in my purse so i didnt have to walk barefoot on someones carpet...i thought all canadians were blinking crazy lol..but i got used to it....and when i was home last time going into someones house i immediately took my shoes off....the man of the house sez..are you bloody mad woman...if you had no shoes on out in the street youd sure want to put them on coming in here lol...his wife walloped him... try the leaving the shoes on the mat thingy and see if it works...Oh....is this post destined for the SIN BIN hahhha better mention a book and keep it on topic...

i use a kindle mostly for reading..but love the smell of a new book... do you read paper books or online

Yes I think so too. Maybe some of it goes back to childhood, reading books.

Do you remember trying to read a book in bed in winter time, every few minutes you would have to take your hand in under the blankets, and hold the book with the other hand for awhile.

Yes exactly and all the most interesting bits appeared at night when you were reading in bed. Then your mother would appear and turn off the light. You would wait a few minutes and take your torch from under the pillow
