I'm grateful to the paramedics in our ambulance service who pulled their ambulance onto the pathway while they resucitated me, before speeding me to hospital. Those two men are my friends since (and I might add one of my son's colleagues).

Since that day I've never even touched a cigarette, nor never will.

Last August one of my younger sisters died suddenly because of a smoking related illness.

Thankfully my hospital consultant tells me that usually my illness stops progressing once you smoke, but in my case (and he showed me the charts and figures) I've made a 60% improvement so far and he tells me that's quite unusual.... so here's to a complete reversal... or as near as I can get.

So if any smoker is reading this post. Please stop smoking. Up to 16 months ago I didn't believe I could.

And remember too... your life and your lifestyle depends on you quitting that noxious weed.

Oh and men.... the doc told me that smoking has an adverse effect on your virility. Just a final thought.
Weird how sooner or later, hopefully, we understand our health is priceless, and we are personally and solely responsible for it, too. As for me, tried the gum, the patch, the pills, and I FINALLY realized these 'props' are not going to do it for me. I quit cold turkey....that experience was so bad, the thought of it keeps me from starting again.

It was my dear little pal's lung cancer diagnosis that did it for me, I am a non smoker now since August 1st 2006 ......Me I tried patches for a week or so, got an allergic reaction to them so decided that the way forward was to just stick with my decision to quit and move on ...................I'm so pleased that I did ....good luck to anyone else trying to quit the filthy habit if I could do it anyone can .....and its a great feeling to know there are no smokers amongst my family .....
