Fourteen months off them this month after smoking 40+ a day for 40 years. I thought it would be hard if not impossible to give them up.... I wish I'd known how easy it is 30 or more years ago.

Some of the benefits; I can buy things that I couldn't have bought when I was spending over €16 a DAY on something that was killing me. People tell me my skin and eyes are clearer. I can actually taste food that I used to think had a bland taste. I can smell things I never noticed since I was a kid. My docs say I'll live longer. My lifestyle has improved. People I care about are proud of me for giving up the cigarettes. I've made new friends who I met amongst those who were quitting at the same time as me.

I'm proud of me. I never thought I could do it.... and I did!

Why do you Irish refer to cigarettes as homosexuals?

Freedom of choice, Bigby. Giving up smoking was one of the best decisions I ever made. But nobody should be bullied into giving up smoking. Unfortunately society is increasingly treating smokers as we treated Blacks a couple of centuries ago.

typical of an american they think they where the first to do everything. cigarettes where called fags on this side of the atlantic long before homosexuals where called it in yankyland.

Well done, Rashers. At times I used to smoke 40+ cigarettes per day as well., and after the second attempt I managed to give up smoking with no problems at all. But I lost some weight as a result of giving up. Usually people gain weight when quitting smoking.

Here's a challenge!

Fill ashtrays or anything you use as an ashtray with milk. Keep on using it as an ashtray... and don't empty it, nor drain off the milk. After a couple of days see how it feels to empty those ashtrays.... and remember there's kids about.

Sickening thought eh?

Be easier not to light up?
