Thanks Dave. It's always nice to know that someone enjoyed your post. That movie, The Treaty, is far superior and as you say, more historically correct than the comedy written by Neil Jordan. I mean field artillery practically poking their barrels in through the windows of the GPO.... the surrender taking place outside the GPO and Dev (who was in Bolands) amongst them.... I could go on but it's hard not to cringe at Jordan's effort... oh yeh and Kitty with a Tommy gun.

And I meant to bump this this thread too for the same reason as the other Michael Collins one.

Glad you enjoyed it rosebud. There's some very good ful length movies and documentaries uploaded to here... usually in the Arts & Culture forum.

The most recent one I uploaded is a full length drama of Strumpet City (from where I got my Rashers moniker). I believe Strumpet City is probably the best drama ever produced by RTE and I highly reommend it. But maybe not in one sitting as I think it goes on for about two hours.

It's set in the Dublin of Jim Larkin and the Great Lockout. The main characters living in Chandlers Court (in real life Henrieta St) include Rashers Tierney and his 'butty' The Toucher Hennessy.

Another full length that comes to mind is The Hanging Gael, and there are many more. I've more to upload but don't want to spam the forum, so I'm only uploading if they're wanted.

          Thanks for the feedback rosebud.

Strumpet City has been pulled by You Tube, but this may be only temporary. The rest should all still be there -- with more to come.

I see there's a discussion on another forum partly about the pros and cons of the two sites. Bet they don't have full length movies and documentaries.

This is the REAL Michael Collins movie... not like the fictional story shown in the more well known movie.

Bumped due to the wet night. This movie imo is far superior to the "Michael Collins" movie.

I wouldn't be too hard on the Neil Jordan pic... he didn't stray too far from the story considering it was a Hollywood effort - and it helped bring Collins back into the mainstream of Irish history where he belonged.

The other one is so fictional it's almost comedy. Imagine.. a car-bomb in 1919! DeValera surrendering from the GPO. (He was in Bolands Mills) All of them surrendering at the GPO. (the GPO garrison surrendered in Moore Street) I could go on and on but I'd just get into a kink of laughing at it.

If he had a been a bit more accurate it would have helped. I don't know how many times I've had to explain the truth to those who saw and believed the story as depicted in Jordan's movie.
