America. did own Greenland during WW2 to all intents and purposes.....They kept the Germans out and that is what he means..
Trumps mind says that Russia or China could invade Greenland and Europe could not defend it. Denmark could certainly not defend it, as he pointed out the other day they could not and did not even try to defend themselves when the Germans attacked in WW2.......
Trump the Businessman only understands power.....Diplomacy is not a high priority in his mind...

In April 1941 Greenland was signed over as a De. Facto protectorate of the United States...

During WW2 the US . Coast Guard kept Greenlanders supplied with their needs....

The US has a treaty since the early 50s that it can have as many bases in Greenland as it wants so there is no need for annexation.

All he is interested is the minerals & rare earth which apparently it has in abundance & how he personally can get his hands on it.

I spent most of 1967. In a,library in Shepherds Bush London......While the British Army was waiting patiently for me to come back.......I eventually did in 1969 a bit late.....lol
