    Never heard of him until today. Sometimes history just likes to remember bad people.

    Vere Foster contributed enormously to Ireland's famine relief, emigration support, charity, health & education only to die forgotten and poor

      Great story, it would make a good film. You can understand how Liverpool became such an Irish place as well. It was only a few hours away by boat, but a whole different world. My grandmother was born in St Helens in 1876 , so still a lot of emigration from Ireland well after the famine.
