my dad worked in C.I.E all his life as a blacksmith ,my fondest memory of the works is our kitchen extension this seemed to be on going for as long as I can remember on a friday my da would get us to meet him at the gate of the works he would appear with a handcart full of wood from a dismantled carriage, once or twice I'd see him with half a carriage home we went and the weekend work would start I'd be put on a bus down to Lavin's with a list of nails to be bought and then it started till it was built and then later started all over again,I use to think if you put a track in front of our house it would CHOO CHOO off down the road.

before I start posting pics I want to explain why I will be posting what at times will be one pic at a time , the reason is some attachments will be clips from an Nuacht and the link , C.I.E newspapers for the workers , if I post more the one at a time it may become confusing , so anyone who followed the thread on .ie will understand my reason . I have copied some pics from .ie also which where posted by cosmo ,steevo ,oneeye and oldtown , also I am posting pics from john malone on face book who gave me permission to do so , hope some of you enjoy the following thread

I remember my dad telling me that during the emergency(1939-45) the army construction corps took over most of the works in the same story he told how he was seconded by C.I.E to work for the E.S.B when they were building the power plant at the top of Jamestown rd Inchicore it was a German company building it so I went around for ages telling everyone me da worked for the Germans in the war
