From earliest times the street formed part of the old Irish Slige Chualann, which ran south from the settlement at Áth Cliath. It is named after James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Clanbrassil (1730 – 1798).

That street brings back memories of our Mother skipping down there on a Monday morning with the Sunday best and getting it back on Friday.

My mother was born on lower Clanbrassil St near Vincent St and grew up there. My father's father was born across the road in Chestnut Place and grew up in Donovan's Lane.

Where we used to get our hair cut, opposite Vincent St. The shop was run by two white-haired men who looked like brothers or twins even, with out-of-date copies of Time magazine everywhere.

Remember going to the pawn there for my granny, they booted me out, tool young, so I saw the neighbor who was 17 at the time, I asked him to go in with the bundle. He came out red faced and shoved the pound at me saying, ya bitch ya didn't tell me it was yer granny's knickers! Lol

Welcome to you GL....always great when you first get access...an then to get an answer...well. I was born just up the road from Fitzer's Bunch of Grapes (name selected by the punters on account of the imitatation grapevines which decorated the place) ....and it was in the same family since 1739. I have a newspaper cutting somewhere that reports the pub closing the week of the 7th Feb 1989. Larkin's must have been around the same time as it was all part of the road widening and regeneration at that time.
