Is this the Phoenix park races we used to stand at the top of 15 Acres or by the Furrie Glen. All for free now you have to pay a fortune to see the races.
Elvery and Clerys were the best place for Sports Gear but they were expensive . Yet again any Sports Gear with a Club or Country name is expensive (Just look at Club Football Shirts ).
The Ma knew all the dealers always went down on Fridays for a bargain .
Can still hear the voices in my ear the women shouting out *Come get your Oranges 6 for 9d*. When my sister shouted we used to say you sound louder than *Magso Delaney in Moore Street. I used to the think the big Women on the First Stall was *Magso*. Later in life we went to the Pub in Moore Street they all sounded rough but they hearts of gold.

It was a wonderland for young kids....my image is of being dragged around be me Ma, before Christmas freezin cold and a big bugle hangin outa me nose....with coat scarf n gloves.... the woollen gloves tied tegedder with a piece a string goin round yer neck case ye lost one....or both..... later a stop off in Camden Street and a wait outside the Long Hall with a packet a crips an a boddle orange while the Ma and her sister ..the Auntie had a few boddles a stout before going home through the back streets to the front room above in 82 Clanbrassil St Lwr in Little Jerusalem, and a nice heat up by the open fire.
