It's a beaut...Royal Insurance 1869.....Italianate palazzo by William G. Murray. Finished in Portland stone, the building was elaborately carved. Demolished when the area was cleared for the construction of Stephenson’s Central Bank.

the problems with old buildings is...they cannot fit ''computer flooring''......or divide space to suit the user....

bigby..I am referring to the cost.......

especially high buildings......to move the lift thresholds up...is an enormous cost...

No Joe...That's an old nonsense excuse....raised flooring does the trick, and partitioning is not difficult, even an arch in a wall is not beyond the bounds. Those buildings should be preserved at all costs. Even the facade retention idea is more acceptable than demolition. There's really no excuse. As for that Stephenson eyesore,.....it should have been fecked out in the sticks.

dtw.....not my words.....just a conversation I had a few years ago with an architect.....

of course a couple of million for lift shaft and lift alterations...seems a lot to me.....

What you on there today Joe ?...Most older buildings have high ceilings....you're not lifting anything of structure up....ye cover it over, create a void, to facilitate yer ducts and cables.
