Do you know when or if they'll put any of the other census records online? When I was in Ireland the National Archives was closed!! I'm starting to think my family was in the Witness Protection Program.

There is talk about releasing the 1921 census to promote tourism but havnt heard anymore.
If you post some info here, a few of the guys are great at finding info on it and they have other sources as well.

Not sure how much I want to post out in the open but it would be great to have some help! After near 20 years of searching I'm pretty sure I've located where the family lived - but without earlier census material I can't be sure. (unless I go back to Ireland and break into the archives because I know they'll close the minute I land!!!)
I have to head off to work now but I'll tell my family story (as I know it) this afternoon.

The website is so much easier than going in to the national archives. Its searchable and you dont have to wait for yer man to come up from the basement only to find its the wrong one.

There was no census in 1921 as we were busy scrappin with each other! It's such a pity too that earlier records(1881 and 1891) were pulped due to the paper shortage during WWI. There are general reports for those years and some info can be extracted from griffiths valuation. Due to data protection and privacy the 1926 census returns cannot be released until 2027 unless there is statutory change to allow general access to the public.

Yer right Jinks. Gats pointed out me error but saved me blushes by doin it by pm. There was talk of the statutory changes being made in light of Obamas vist to help lure more wallets, Sorry I mean Americans to Ireland to trace their roots. But havnt heard any more since. Eamon Gilmore was the man who was on about it.

I actually think this was a FG election promise but it won't happen anytime soon. AFAIK its still in paper or microfilm form so needs to be entered into a database which will take quite some time.

As far as I know there was NO Census taken in 1921 in Ireland owing to the troubles. The census that should have been done in 1921 was done in 1926.

There is a Petition going around to get the 1926 census return opened up early.

I traced back to my great grandparents then seemed to come up against a brick wall, I find it very time consuming nothing seems to be simple. Will have to try again when I get more time.

Sorry I was speaking about the 1926 census. That petition was going before the election but from what I read on dedicated genealogy sites lit might be 2026 until the works done to upload the 1926 census. Some of the 1911 census apparently was missing too and may be still in possession of the company in Canada employed at the time.
