Thomas Burk was an Irish born Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutentant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company H, 97th New York Infantry for action on May 6, 1864 at Wilderness Campaign, Virginia.

His citation reads

"At the risk of his own life, Burk went back while the rebels were still firing and, finding Col. Wheelock unable to move, alone and unaided, carried him off the field of battle.

George Crawford Platt (Londonderry, Ireland, February 17, 1842–June 20, 1912) was a Medal of Honor recipient in the American Civil War.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Private in Troop H, 6th US Cavalry for action on July 3, 1863 at Fairfield, Pennsylvania, near Gettysburg. His citation reads "Seized the regimental flag upon the death of the standard bearer in a hand-to-hand fight and prevented it from falling into the hands of the enemy."

He later rose to the rank of Sergeant.

He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pennsylvania.

Born in 1835 in Limerick, Ireland, Jones immigrated to the United States and was living in New York when he joined the U.S. Navy. He served during the Civil War as a chief boatswain's mate on the USS Vincennes. Although their enlistments had expired, Jones and crewmate James Seanor voluntarily transferred to the USS Chickasaw to fight in the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, during which they "carried out [their] duties gallantly". For this action, both Jones and Seanor were awarded the Medal of Honor four months later, on December 31, 1864.

John Creed (1819 – November 28, 1872) was an Irish born Union Army soldier during the American Civil War. He received the Medal of Honor for gallantry during the Battle of Fisher's Hill near Strasburg, Virginia fought September 21 - 242, 1864. The battle was one of the engagements of the Valley Campaigns of 1864.

Creed joined the 23rd Illinois Infantry in August 1862, and was discharged in June 1865.

Richard D. Dunphy (December 12, 1841 – November 23, 1904) was a Union Navy sailor in the American Civil War and a recipient of the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions at the Battle of Mobile Bay.

Born on December 12, 1841, in Ireland, Dunphy immigrated to the United States and was living in New York City when he joined the U.S. Navy on December 17, 1863. He served during the Civil War as a coal heaver on Admiral David Farragut's flagship, the USS Hartford. At the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, he "performed his duties with skill and courage" despite heavy fire. He was severely wounded by fragments of an artillery shell fired by the Confederate ironclad CSS Tennessee, losing both of his arms above the elbow. For his actions during the battle, he was approved for the Medal of Honor four months later, on December 31, 1864.

He was a private in the Co G. 14th US Infantry when war broke out. He participated in 56 battles and in one engagement, suffered the loss of an eye.
On November 25, 1869 he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery in the battle of Chapel House Farm, Virginia..

John Carroll Delaney was born in Ireland on April 22, 1848, and entered the service at Honesdale, Pennsyvlania. He earned the Medal of Honor during the Civil War while serving as Sergeant, Company I, 107th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry at Danby's Mills, Virginia, on February 6, 1862. The Medal was actually issued to him on August 29, 1894.

He died on April 4, 1915 and is buried in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery.

His wife, E. Dora Klein Delaney (1858-1917), is buried with him.

Nicholas Fox Medal of Honor.
Born in Ireland in 1844, the year before the Great Famine (1845-1852) struck, Fox and his family were among the 1 million who fled the country for a better life during the period. He moved to the United States when he was 9.

He lived in what was called the Tall Gate section of Greenwich, and was among 14 young men from 10 homes in that area who enlisted to fight for the Union cause, according to a story in the Greenwich Press, which was folded into Greenwich Time in 1942.

Fox enlisted on Sept. 6, 1862, in Company H, 28th Infantry Regiment of Connecticut, according to Laura Jowdy, archivist with the Mount Pleasant, S.C., Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

The Siege of Port Hudson, in which Fox earned his Medal of Honor, took place between May 22 and July 9, 1863. Confederate forces surrendered after hearing of the Union victory at Vicksburg, Miss., on July 4.

The victories gave the Union side control of the Mississippi River for the remainder of the war.

He was discharged on Aug. 28, 1863, a little more than two months after his heroics.
