  • Back in the 50s, IIRC, the 6 went to Blackrock, the 7 to Sallynoggin & the 8 to Dalkey.
    We would often go to Dalkey & walk up Killiny Hill & have picnic.

      The current route 7 can be traced back to 1979 when it started operating between the city centre and Ballybrack. In 1988 it was extended to Loughlinstown Park. Certain departures started serving Cherrywood in 2004, but in 2016 these services retained the route 7 number, while the Loughlinstown Park services became route 7A.

      KD 28 was new to CIE in 1981. By 1996 it had been withdrawn by Dublin Bus. In 1993 it was involved in an accident that saw it lose its roof. It was repaired using the upper deck of KD 84.

      The bus is in an all-over ad for CAN / Commuter Advertising Network. This is the CIE agency responsible for advertising on buses (and elsewhere). It is still around today, although they currently partner with Global Media who place the actual ads on the buses and other places.

              Yes they finished around 2010 and the number 10 finished around the same time it was a bendy bus .

                    Yep, we used it regularly when we lived in Clonskeagh.
                    The terminus was at what was then the national fever hospital & used for the polio outbreak in the 50s.

                    • The bendy-buses came off route 10 around 2004/05 and moved to Harristown garage when it opened in 2005. They were then used to launch new route 4, and later 4A, in 2006. They were withdrawn at the end of 2010, after the 4 and 4A were merged into one route that operated to Monkstown Avenue. Some of the buses went on to have new careers in the UK.

                      Dublin Airport / Aircoach launched some new bendy-buses last week that charge from overhead equipment:

                      • This week we are going back thirty-one years to 1995 and to P 10 parked on Abbey Street, partially displaying route 34.

                        Route 34 started operating between the city centre and Finglas in 1954. It went via Church Street and Glasnevin, and terminated on St. Margaret's Road. By 1970 the terminus was McKelvey Avenue, and remained so until the route ceased to operate around August 1995. It was replaced by new City Imp route 134. It was subsequently merged into route 83, which was subsequently partially replaced by routes 23 and 24. The nearest bus routes for the residents of McKelvey Avenue now are routes F1, F2, F3, L89 and N6.

                        P 10 was new to Dublin Bus in 1993, being one of the first batch of buses delivered for the new City Swift services. Route 34 was never a City Swift route. The bus was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in the early-2000s.

                        For many years, this side of Lower Abbey Street was lined with buses, parked between duties. Up the near the Abbey Theatre there was a bus stop certain routes departed from. Now this side of the street to the tram tracks of the Luas Red Line.

                        • This week we are going back thirty-three years to 1993, and to KD 128 on O'Connell Street with a service on route 22A to Drimnagh.

                          Route 22A started running between Cabra West and Drimnagh. In 1984 the southern terminus was Errigal Gardens, but in 1985 it reached its final terminus on Drimnagh Road. In October 1993, City Imp route 120 started between the city centre and Cabra, which resulted in the 22A running only between Parnell Square and Drimnagh Road. Route 22A was replaced by new City Imp route 121 in December 1997. In its final form the 22A had reverted to a cross-city route, running from Ashington to Drimnagh Road.

                          KD 128 was new to CIE in 1982. This bus withdrawn by Dublin Bus in early-1999.
