Chippers mainly use the large grade of Maris Pipers which we don't grow too much. Seed potatoes will be a problem too as we source a good few from Scotland. We grow some in Donegal but better range and quality in Scotland.Originally posted by Twobob View PostAnd then we hear today that we may not get the spuds from England that supply chippers here .

What became of the old variety that we fathers grew in the back garden like Kerr Pinks, and when did we start depending on other countries for spuds. What is better in the UK, is it the soil or whatOriginally posted by Twobob View PostDo mine from Roosters .... perfecto , that's on a small scale though .

What I am trying to establish is what makes them better than other potatoes, are they more reliable and blight resistant, is it the soil or what is it that makes them better. If we knew that, we could try to match the quality ourselvesOriginally posted by dinny View PostIn my opinion the taste is much better.....not that I eat much potatoes

Wouldn't have had a Famine if we grew them......
"Maris Piper is best grown on silty soils, but will do OK in most good, loamy soils. They are resistant to Golden eelworm, blight and blackleg. As it's a popular choice to grow, you want to order your seed potatoes early on, as they sell out fast."The mind is everything. What you think you become.

Most eating potatoes come from areas like Lincolnshire. We do get a good bit of seed potatoes from Scotland do. The windy Scottish climates limits the spread of viruses through aphids.Originally posted by Vico2 View PostThey come from Scotland as far as I know. What makes them better than other potatoes
